What kind of cleanser should you be using for you skin? This is a question we hear frequently in our clinic. It really does depend on your skin type.
Here are some quick guidelines in choosing the right cleanser for your skin type:
For oily skin: use a cleanser that contains Salicylic Acid. This is a plant-derived ingredient that helps to keep the pores clean and free of blackheads and speeds up exfoliation, allowing better absorption of other products needed to clear up acne.
For normal skin: you have a much wider range of products to choose from. You may want to try a cleanser containing Glycolic Acid, which speeds up the natural exfoliation process just like Salicylic Acid, but without overdrying your skin.
For dry skin: usually a cream-based cleanser with Glycerin or another type of moisturizer works quite well. At Colorado Dermatology Institute, we have a good variety of cleansers that would be just right for you, ranging from $20-$30. Let us know if you’d like to see the brands and types we carry.
