So here’s another “Daily Do” from your friendly local dermatologist.

Alright, so when you look at a product that you’re putting on your skin, and you’re looking at the ingredients, and you get the magnifying glass out to try to read stuff that’s in one point font, oftentimes you’ll come across things called alcohols that are inside your product. And then they’ll make you scratch your head and say, “What is an alcohol, because isn’t that gonna dry? Isn’t that gonna irritate? Isn’t that gonna bother my skin?” And the answer is well, maybe.

The Different Types of Alcohol

There’s a lot of ingredients in the products that we use, and alcohol is something that is in almost everything. Now, there’s lots of different types of alcohol. And so what I’d advise you to do is go to the Environmental Working Group Dot Org, and look at the different alcohols that they’re putting in the products that you’re using. And you can look at the toxicity ratings for all of the ingredients, so that you can be informed and you can be knowledgeable about what you’re choosing to put on your skin. Because guys, what you put on your skin will absorb into your body to some extent. So we have to be careful.

When Using a New Product

So if you’re using a new product and you’re very sensitive to it, talk to your local dermatologist, because we can often help you decide what the ingredient is that’s hurting your skin. The other part of all of this is that you have to be conscious of what you’re putting on. So if you try a new product, and you’re getting red and blotchy, stop it. If you’re trying a new product and your skin feels and looks great, continue using it after you’ve looked at the Environmental Working Group’s knowledge on what the ingredients actually are.
