So here’s another daily do from your local dermatologist!

So dermatofibroma is a ridiculous term for a scar that forms after usually some form of trauma. Now, a lot of times they happen on the lower legs and there’s this like hard, little nodule that’s there and it never really goes away, but guess what guys, that means something is new and changing and growing on your body and it’s a new bump. So what do you do? You go see your local dermatologist so that we can accurately diagnose it. These things tend to persist. After they formed they tend not to get any bigger. They tend also not to go away. So if you’ve been given a diagnosis of a dermatofibroma and you’ve decided to just leave it alone instead of trying some form of treatment for it and it starts getting bigger or changing or growing, please come back and see us, because then you have a lesion that’s changing and growing and we need to re-evaluate it to see if it needs a biopsy. Now when we take a biopsy if it just comes back as a dermatofibroma, usually we don’t do anything else with those except for watch them. If it comes back as something called a cellular dermatofibroma there is some debate in the dermatology literature as to what you do about them. Sometimes we recommend monitoring them. Sometimes we recommend cutting them out, and so please have a conversation with your local dermatologist. Now, how do you prevent these in the first place? I don’t know how to prevent them and what if you get tons of them all over your body, could that be associated with other things? It might be. So please have a conversation with your local dermatologist to number one, make sure we have the right diagnosis. Number two, if they grow or change from that initial diagnosis, get it re diagnosed. Number three how to treat these.

Because Dermatologists treat more than just skin cancer!
