Here’s another daily tip from your friendly local dermatologist!

A Digital Mucus Cyst; digital (fingers) and mucus (kind of what’s inside of them) and cyst (a bump). Now people usually get them right at the joint of your hands or your feet and It’s usually an outpouching of the inside portion of your joint that contains the oil so that you don’t squeak-squeak-squeak when you move. So, if you picture the inside of your joint containing like a bag and that there’s oil, if it squeezes out of the joint then you get this little cysts and most of the time when they’re small they’re not tender or bothersome, but as they get bigger they’ll tend to get more tender and more bothersome because they’re putting pressure on the area and When you put your hand in your pocket, you’ve got this bump sticking out. It’s gonna get hit and knocked. Now, I personally don’t treat these any longer as a dermatologist because it just took time after time after time for me to get rid of these. I personally send these to either a podiatrist or a hand surgeon depending on the location and ask them to treat it because they can treat these surgically with better outcomes than I was able to get as a dermatologist. But the important thing is to one, establish the diagnosis and your dermatologist is probably the most appropriate Specialty to do that. And then two, talk to your dermatologist about how successful they are at taking care of these. Now if you have multiple of these on multiple different fingers or different toes You need to talk to your local dermatologist about why this is happening. Could there be underlying associated arthritis or other conditions? So it’s important to have a conversation so that you make sure that you’re getting the care that you need.

Take a look at your skin today and call your Dermatologist if you notice anything new, changing or growing.
