Video Transcript

All right, so here’s another daily do from your friendly local dermatologist!

All right, so if you have a flat tire, does it really matter how good your engine is? Is it really going to propel you to zero to 60 in some ridiculous speed if all four of your tires are flat and the reason I’m bringing up this analogy is, there’s often times in medicine where we have so many different specialties, and listen, I’m a dermatologist. I get it. The heart is supposed to bring blood to the skin, that’s its function. We all know the heart does a lot more but for my very limited point of view, that’s what I consider and if you have four flat tires on a racecar, it’s not going to perform very well. The body is a unit. Each part of the body helps other parts of the body and nothing, no organ, is in isolation. We have spoken about different topics that probably some of you have said what does eating blueberries have to do with my skin? Okay, there’s some better antioxidants and there’s some polyphenols and there’s some whatever, but come on Reagan. I am trying to get everybody’s mindset to shift, to say yes, our body is a unit. It is all connected. What we put in here will have a profound effect not only here, but also here. So guys, 75% of men in America are overweight or obese. 60% of women are overweight or obese and we know that obesity contributes to the most significant chronic diseases that we have. High cholesterol, heart problems, you know these, diabetes, these sorts of things. Right now less than 15% of America has type 2 diabetes. If trends in this country continue for being overweight and obese, by 2050 one third of the country will be type-2 diabetic and it will not only destroy people’s lives, it will destroy the healthcare system because there’s just simply not enough resources to take care of that many people who are deathly sick. So as we’re rounding out this whole year of topics, as we start talking less and less about dermatology we’re gonna start talking more and more about head to toe health. It starts with what you put in here, starts with how much exercise you get every day. Please, don’t think that each organ is in isolation and doesn’t work together. We know that if we don’t have a heart we die. We know if we don’t have lungs, we die. We know if we don’t have skin, we die. So why wouldn’t we need to keep all these organs healthy so that the rest of them can thrive? Today, spend a little intention thinking about how we’re treating the temple.

Because Dermatologists treat more than just skin cancer!
