Getting to YES

Yes! Painting on Wall

“Imagine no limitations; decide what’s right and desirable before you decide what’s possible.”

– Brian Tracy

How often have you heard, or told yourself, that something just can’t be done? Doesn’t it frustrate you when you call a company or, (shudder) have to deal with a government agency, or you’re on the phone trying to get an answer or some help and the bored person on the other end of the phone seems to be spring loaded to tell you why what you need just isn’t possible? It’s just infuriating to deal with that, isn’t it?

Well, no disrespect intended, but do YOU do that to yourself or to others? It’s always easier to say “no”, or pass the buck, or fall back on “that’s just our policy” than trying hard to get to “yes.” Instead of being that person who is quick to say “no” or who listens to and is swayed by those who can think up a problem for any solution, try being the one who says to yourself or to others, “Don’t tell me what I CAN’T do. I don’t care what I CAN’T do. Tell me what I CAN do.” Maybe if enough people took that approach to negative thinking or to people who believe there’s only one way to accomplish something instead of looking for options, more could be done with a lot less frustration.

Have a great day and commit to making “getting to yes” your default position. Try it, you’ll like it.
