So here’s your daily tip from your friendly local dermatologist.

Okay so how are you supposed to cut your toenails? Okay, point number one is please do cut them, if they’re getting this long and starting to curl down and smash them to your shoes, that’s a problem. So please cut them probably about once a month so that they do not cause problems.

Tip #2: This is how you’re supposed to cut your toenails. If this is your toe, your toenail is supposed to be in a square, and come out to the sides. If you cut them right in line with the skin right here, they can start to dive down, and start to become ingrown toenails, and we don’t want that. So your edges should be square and out to the side. Now you can file them just a little bit, so that you’re not annoying your spouse at home. But this will help keep your toenails healthy, and not get ingrown toenails.

Dr. Reagan Anderson is a local dermatologist from Colorado Springs.
