And here are some more daily tips from your local dermatologist.

All right: Ingrown hairs. We all get them and depending on where they are they, they can be a pain in the butt. So here’s what happens with an ingrown hair. If you view the top of my hand as the top of your skin, and my finger as a hair that’s coming through, what’s supposed to happen is the hair supposed to go out, and then eventually it’s supposed to die and fall off. Well sometimes that ingrown hair doesn’t go through, or gets trapped and wrapped around underneath the skin, and so you’ve got this hair that’s coiling underneath your skin, and that’s not supposed to happen. And when something is not supposed to happen in the body, the body usually reacts by getting red and irritated, and hence you’ve got that pimple looking area that’s ingrown hair.

There’s a couple things that you can do, depending on the location, and if this is just a problem that happens once in a blue moon, or problem happens all the time. Now there’s a wash out there called Benzoyl Peroxide, and it’s an acne ingredient, so it treats acne. OXY is a great one, you can get it over the counter. So if you get an area that is always prone to ingrown hairs, I would use the Benzoyl Peroxide acne wash on that area to help prevent it. You just put it on, let it sit for 30 seconds. Rinse it off completely, and then pat dry. Because a Benzoyl Peroxide acne wash is going to help the hair come out, and it’s gonna help the inflammation, and it’s going to decrease the bacterial content of that part of your skin, All of which can decrease ingrown hairs.

The next is don’t pluck your hairs if you’re prone to ingrown hairs, because as you yank that hair out from underneath, now the hair from way down here has got to start, and got to try to find its way up and out, and chances of it going that way, could happen, or it could get coiled underneath. So don’t pluck. Shave. And while we’re talking about shaving, do not shave against the grain of your hair. So all of us, run your hand down side your face is smooth, but you go the other way, it feels like sandpaper because you’re going against the grain. Against the grain, against the grain. Don’t shave that way. Shave with the grain. At the end of a shower and use a Benzoyl Peroxide acne wash as your shave cream. Now they also make special razors for ingrown hair prone people or areas, and you can get those at your local drugstore or supermarket.
