Medical Marijuana

Video Transcript

So here’s another daily do from your friendly local dermatologist!

Let’s talk about medical marijuana and my stance on medical marijuana is that I don’t know. That’s it. You don’t have to listen to the rest of the video, but I don’t know. I think that the marijuana plant probably has some very medicinal qualities to it but we have no idea what those are right now. Nor do we have any pure sources that we can get the raw ingredients to to get those in the right concentration so that we can do reproducible studies for which part of the plant in what concentration in which oil or vehicle or pill or whatever is going to work for which Individual condition. It is the Wild West when you go to a medical marijuana place and they say oh take this for this, it hasn’t been studied well and each individual product has different concentrations from a different species. It’s from a different farm or plant or whatever. Guys, you’re really taking your health at risk when you’re using these products. Now that is not to say that in the future when we actually have really good scientific studies with reproducible results, with standard purities, standard concentrations of standard ingredients from a standard plant grown in controlled conditions, that there won’t be some really good health benefits from the marijuana plant, but until that happens, it’s just simply dangerous. Moreover, the medical marijuana topic, we have to first do no harm, but the marijuana plant actually can do a lot of harm. So the marijuana plant actually is a really good plant for taking toxins out of soil. In fact, sometimes they plant fields of marijuana so that like the cadmiums, the mercuries, the heavy metals that are contaminated from industry that are in soil, the plant kind of soaks those up and it can decontaminate the soil, but then it’s found in the plant and so it has been shown that people who regularly consume medical marijuana or recreational marijuana, they have much higher levels of herbicides, of pesticides, of heavy metals in their system than people who don’t consume these products. So I don’t think anybody wants too much lead in their body or mercury or cadmium or any of these sorts of things. I don’t think we want to be filling our bodies with more herbicides and pesticides than we absolutely have to and yet guys people who consume medical marijuana or recreational marijuana they have much higher levels and that is very, very dangerous. So I want to be clear. Right now, I don’t recommend medical marijuana for anything. I don’t think the scientific research is there and I don’t think that purity is there. I don’t think the reproducibility is there and I think you’re taking an enormous risk with your health and I’m very hopeful that in the future when we have all of these things that have to be done to scientifically be valid and to keep you safe, I think there will be some very good uses but the cart is before the horse right now. Stay tuned. I really hope that industry in the next couple of years starts changing all this, because the marijuana plant is put on this earth for a reason, we got to figure out how to use it, when to use it, why to use it, what to monitor and then I think it’s going to be a very good thing. Cart before the horse right now, though.
