And here are some more daily tips from your local dermatologist.

All of us have sensitive skin at certain points in our life. And those of us who tend to burn more easily, and those of us who tend to have more of the dry skin or lots of allergies, tend to be the ones who have more sensitive skin issues throughout our lives. So one of the main things to think about is what products you use on your skin? We don’t want harsh soaps, but we do want to use gentle cleansers. We don’t want really long hot showers where we come out looking like a lobster.

We want shorter showers with warmer water. We don’t want to rub our skin dry. We want to pat our skin dry. We don’t want to use exfoliating beads and scrub and rub, and rub dry with a towel, and do everything possible to make our skin irritable. We want to treat it with little TLC, little tender loving care. So use gentle cleansers. Use gentle fragrance free moisturizers. Shorter showers with warm water, pat dry, don’t rub dry.

And if you’re not quite sure if a new product is right for you, or if it will make your sensitive skin worse, then right back here, this bone right behind your ear, put a little dab of the new product there every day for a week. If it doesn’t turn red and irritated, chances are, it won’t make the rest of your skin red or irritated.

Dr. Reagan Anderson is a local dermatologist from Colorado Springs.
