Beware of Destination Addiction: The idea that happiness is in the next place, the next job, or even with the next partner. Until you give up the idea that happiness is somewhere else, it will never be where you are.

– Robert Holden

We have all met, worked with, or maybe lived with a person with “Destination Addiction.” The person who is constantly wondering why life hasn’t turned out exactly as they wished, or they haven’t met the “right” person, or this isn’t exactly the job they want. But funny thing is, it seems these people seldom stop to think that just maybe it isn’t the world / people / job around them but perhaps it is THEMSELVES that need a tuneup.

We were blessed with intellect, free will, and the ability to change direction. We have the choice to use those gifts or to passively end up wherever the winds of life blow us. But if you choose to expect external forces to determine your happiness, then own that decision without complaint or bitterness. To loosely paraphrase another relevant quote: “If you always do/think what you’ve always done/thought, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.”

Are you happy with what you’ve always got?
