Thought for the Day

From the Colorado Dermatology Institute in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Years ago I remember saying things like “he pushed my buttons” as an excuse for whatever my behavior was following the button being pushed. Today, with a little more wisdom, I realize that the only person who can “push my buttons” is me. I am the only one who has the power to either allow something to bother me or to not bother me. The external circumstance, the vast majority of the time, is just that, a circumstance. The meaning that I give the circumstance will form our response and our future.

When we give others the ability to “push our buttons” we have given them all the power and by default, have made ourselves powerless to live our best life.

When the unpleasant creeps into our day, maybe ask yourself how the situation is, or can, making you stronger and where is the opportunity in it. Shifting perspective this way helps my best self to be present and helps me grow instead of shrink.

Because Dermatologists treat more than just skin cancer!
