With libraries full of self help books and new age gurus giving us advice on how to live a more fulfilling life, there are a few individuals who have walked their talk and are really worth listening to. One of those individuals is Martin Luther King for even though he is dead, his words and the movement that he championed and died for lives on. All of us have heard at least the most famous words of his “I have a dream” speech. Here are a couple of his other sayings that are immediately personal and powerful because they speak directly to each of us and about us. So hear the words not of a dreamer but of a man who saw life not for what it wasn’t but for what it could be for each of us if we threw of the shackles of ignorance, bigotry, and mental laziness. And in all of this, King stressed the power of thought and the responsibility each of us has to work at what we want – not expect others to do the heavy lifting for us.

“Rarely do we find men who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking. There is an almost universal quest for easy answers and half-baked solutions. Nothing pains some people more than having to think.”

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

Well said.
