Thought for the Day

I have been really trying to make conscious decisions about how I feel about any particular situation. I see, for whatever reason, human nature allows us to believe negatives in every situation more easily than positives especially when it is in regards to ourself. ‘I have to do this again, ‘He is out to get me’, ‘They are ignoring me’; instead of ‘I get to do this again’, ‘He is trying to help me out’, ‘maybe they are dealing with something’.  It was said that what we perceive is our reality, but sometimes it is the true reality. True, but isn’t your reality the one that matters? If you feel that someone has slighted you, then your reality is that someone has slighted you. This is regardless if that was what the person meant to do or not. I believe that, at least to some degree, this perception comes from our view of ourselves. If you think you are a superstar then your perception tends to be more positive, ‘wow, I missed that. Thanks for helping.’ And if you doubt yourself at ever turn your perception tends to be more negative, ‘while are you always trying find what I did wrong’.

“A person who doubts himself is like a man who would enlist in the ranks of his enemies and bear arms against himself. He makes his failure certain by himself being the first person convinced of it.” – Ambrose Bierce
