Ever wonder why some people succeed and move forward while others don’t? Many times people will say that those that “made it” are lucky, and sometimes being in the right place at the right time and talking advantage of that really is how a person pulls away from the pack. But even then, it usually isn’t “luck” but perseverance and work that converts an opportunity into an accomplishment. The words of Thomas Edison, who had over 1000 patents to his name and who, after 1000 attempts, finally invented the first practical incandescent light bulb, are as appropriate for each of us as they were for him: “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”  Could it be that success actually takes work? And if so, is that why so many people stagnate, just never seem to “make it”, and begrudge those that have?  In the age of entitlement, these are thoughts worth considering.
