Thought for the Day #21

This morning the sunrise was beautiful with scattered clouds and a brilliant hue of orange that transitioned to light yellow as it streaked across the sky. Another beautiful sunrise over a beautiful city. Tomorrow the sun will rise again, and again the next day. Day after day it is the same sun, the same atmosphere, the same earth, and the same beautiful city. It does not change.

People do not change either. If we think about it we are much the same person who we were as a child. We have the same fears, the same hopes, the same dreams, and the same ways about us and how we interact with the world. We are the same.

But if you look at the sunrise from day to day and you look at a picture of you at 2 years old compared to now, one has to admit that they both are very, very different. The sun is still the sun and you are still you but everything has changed and will continue to change. It is the one thing in life that we are guaranteed – nothing will stay the same.

The beauty of a sunrise is that you can count on it and you can count on it never being exactly the same as any other day. It brings hope, light, and beauty to our worlds that we get to create each and every day under its grandeur. Or, it can bring a sense of doom and gloom as it represents another day of failure, disappointment, and monotony that we get to create each and every day under a rubric of defeat. The choice is ours. We get to create our day, each and every day.

What you focus on grows. We all know this. We all know it is a truth in life. If you focus on the bad you will find it everywhere. If you are bitter and blaming others for where you are at, you will never break free of those self-imposed chains. However, if you look at everything as a joyous opportunity, lesson, or challenge then that will grow as well. The sunrise over our beautiful city can mean anything you want it to mean – just be careful about how you look at the sun each day because it will change every part of you, every day, for as long as the sun rises in your life.

Thank you for joining me on this journey,
