Thought for the Day

From the Colorado Dermatology Institute in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The other day I read an article about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Some of you might recall that he went through grueling  Supreme Court confirmation hearings. At any rate, Justice Thomas’s story is an inspirational one that speaks of the “triumph of individual  will and grace over seemingly insurmountable odds” and really is an example of the “American Dream” that can be realized by anyone regardless of where they started out.
Justice Thomas is a descendant of West African slaves. He grew up living with his mother and two siblings in a one-room shack in Georgia without plumbing and nothing was ever given to him. He grew up without privileges of any kind. Yet he persevered through some very tough times and today he sits on the highest court of the land.
So how does this tie into our ongoing “Create Your Day” or “Thought for the Day” series? Well, Justice Thomas keeps a bust in his office of his Grandfather who apparently didn’t tolerate defeatism or excuses. On that bust are words that his grandfather repeated to young Clarence over the years: “Old man Can’t is dead. I helped bury him.” So have you buried your “Old man Can’t” so you can get where you want to be in life? Try it, you’ll like it.
