On my wall I have a sign that says “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”. Wayne Gretzky is known for saying this. He wasn’t know for being the most formidable guy in the ice, 6’ 185lbs, but he could skate and he could handle the puck! He is one of the most well known hockey players and in many ways he changed the game. His nick name was “The Great One” and has been called ‘the greatest hockey player ever’ by many people. He played the game like each one was a playoff game, he was known for never letting up and as captain of his team he expected the same for his team.
In this office you are expected to play like every game is a playoff game, this expectation applies to everyone from the top down. Each of needs each other in order to make things work as smoothly as they do. We deal with people lives every day and that is a playoff game for those people.
So why this quote, of all the things he said? Because we need to be reminded that if there is something you want you have to try. If you don’t take the risk you will never fail, this is true, but you also won’t succeed. So… take the shot!
