Video Transcript:

So here’s another daily tip from your friendly local dermatologist in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

So in a lot of these videos we talked about avoiding ultraviolet light or UV light, and so I get asked the question, well, regularly, what is UV light? And it’s a great question. Do you remember in high school, they were talking about the ROYGBIV? You know where you can go from the visible spectrum of what different colors are found in lights? Well, it’s all part of this electromagnetic spectrum. And visible light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum as well. And there’s a bunch of different sizes of light, or wavelengths of light that we are coming into contact with. And an ultraviolet light is just a narrow band of sizes of light or wavelengths of light if you will. And those wavelengths of light that are found within the ultraviolet spectrum, those are the ones that tend to cause the most damage to your skin, and produce things like skin cancers later on in life.

And that’s why we talk about them so much. Because we don’t want you in our surgical chairs.
