So here’s another daily tip from your friendly local dermatologist!

A lot of times patients come in and say Doc, you’re not gonna give me a scar right? And my answer is no, you absolutely will have a scar with any procedure that we do. Whether it’s from cosmetic procedures where we’re actually trying to get a specific type of scar. Whether it’s from destructive procedures, like cryosurgery where we’re trying to destroy something. Whether it’s from a biopsy where we’re taking a sample of it, or whether it’s from radiation where we’re giving radiation damage to the skin, or an actual surgery where we’re cutting, Stitching, scraping, burning that sort of thing. You will have a scar. You can’t do anything to the skin without a scar happening. Now some of the scars are just redness or darkness called hyperpigmentation, and we do have a video on that. That usually goes away over time, that’s not really a scar. Or whether it’s a true scar where it’s going to be present for life. Anytime you go past the top layer of skin, the epidermis, and you get into the middle layer of skin, the dermis, there will be a scar present. Please talk to your local dermatologist before any procedure is done so that you understand the risks, the benefits, and the options for that procedure. You need to have a realistic idea of what a scar could look like when the procedure’s done so that you can make an educated decision on if that procedures right for you or if something else is better. Now we can’t always, with a hundred percent accuracy, tell you what the scar will be like because there’s a lot of individual variations among people’s skin. How people heal and probably most importantly how well you follow the instructions that we give you for after procedure or after surgical care. Guys, I do thousands of surgeries, I have over 25,000 surgeries that I’ve done in my career as a physician. I do almost the same thing every time. Most of the time they turn out really nicely and some of the time they don’t, and when they don’t ninety-nine percent of the time is because people won’t follow directions. I can’t follow you home and make sure you’re doing everything right. Please watch our videos so you know what you’re getting into with any procedure, any surgery. So that you can make an educated decision for your health. Then and only then are we partners, because if we do our best here, put all of our years of dedication and time and training and practice here in the clinic, that means nothing if you don’t do what you need to do for the after procedure or after surgical care. Please, help us help you!
