So here’s another daily tip from your friendly local dermatologist!

Let’s talk about laser hair removal. So laser hair removal works the best if you have dark hair and very light skin, because what happens is we’re shooting a bunch of energy into the area, and we’re trying to have that energy be captured in the dark pigment of the hair and not captured in the pigment of the skin. So if you have dark hair and dark skin, you don’t know what you’re destroying. You don’t know where that energy is being concentrated and that’s where scars and other problems can happen. A laser hair removal is not painless. It does hurt a little bit. Laser hair removal does not work on everybody. So if you have blonde or dirty blonde hair and you have light skin, it’s gonna be very hard for a laser to be made to be capturing the energy inside the hair in enough of a degree to cause destruction and death of that hair while not causing damage to your skin. So, please have a conversation with your local dermatologist on if laser hair removal is right for you. Please understand your options, please understand the risks and please also understand that sometimes laser hair removal can actually go bad. You can get scars from it and some people actually grow more hair from laser hair removal. Guys, this is a huge, huge topic and the one rule of thumb is please go to someone who spent years of training on how to do this. Don’t go somewhere where they just anybody is operating the laser. Now full disclosure, I don’t have a laser hair removal machine. I just don’t, so I feel very comfortable saying go to a dermatologist because this isn’t a plug that’s gonna help me somehow. I just have seen so many problems with laser hair removal because people don’t really understand the intricacies of destroying hair without destroying the skin. Please talk to your local dermatologist and we can walk you through the process.
