“What people have the capacity to choose, they have the ability to change.”Madeleine Albright, U.S. Secretary of State 1997-2001
If it ain’t broke, it don’t need fixin’….
“Loyalty to petrified opinion never yet broke a chain or freed a human soul.”Mark Twain
Change. Exciting or frightening? Anticipated or dreaded? Necessary for growth or unsettling and unnecessary? Well, suppose Change is any of those things depending on how we perceive it and its impact on us. Perceptions are powerful lenses through which we look at life but they aren’t immutable. The good news is that we have the power to look at things a different way; to ask ourselves if some thought, pattern, belief, really IS broke and needs fixin’; to decide for ourselves if we will embrace change or resist.
But here’s the thing – life IS change and if we stand rigid against it instead of flowing with it, giving ourselves the chance to grow with it and open up new knowledge and gain new perspectives, change will still happen and we’re likely to be swept one way or the other with no rudder to control our direction.
So the choice is ours. Remember that “If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten’!” (Tony Robbins). Is that good enough? Choose wisely.
