Colorado Springs Dermatologist Dr. Reagan Anderson
Video Transcript
All right, so here’s another daily do from your friendly local dermatologist!
Let’s talk again about diet, because in dermatology, over and over and over again, we’ve been told and we’ve been telling patients that diet has nothing to do with your skin. Now if you’ve been watching my videos you know I think that that is complete malarkey and doesn’t hold up and I think from a common-sense point of view, uh none of us really believe it either. We like to say, oh yeah have as much chocolate as you want or have as much doughnuts as you want or have as much whatever you want. It’s fine, not gonna affect your skin at all. Well, that’s nonsense. We know it intuitively and you know science is starting to show that too, the problem was that for years it was hard to do a well controlled study restricting diet because humans are notoriously bad at restricting their diet. So results were skewed. I know personally that some foods create big pimples on me, like chocolate and peanut butter. That doesn’t hold for everybody. My wife, she has gluten, she breaks out in eczema everywhere and this is a new thing so she’s in her 30s and she’s Italian, of Italian origin and she’s had gluten her whole life and then about two years ago, every time she ate it, bad eczema. Please, let’s be thoughtful about what we’re putting into our bodies. We need to do it. We need to feed the Machine. So, I think we can all agree that anything that is considered cancer-causing or that the World Health Organization considers cancer-causing probably we shouldn’t consume it, like lunch meats. Okay, I think those are the easy ones but I think we need to stay away from the ultra-processed foods. They did a study that shows if you’ve had more than four ultra-processed foods like soda, cereals, sports nutrition drinks, those sorts of things a day your chances of dying from all causes go up 62%, that’s with four a day. Think about it. That’s what most people consume all day long. If you go to five it increases that another 18%. Blows my mind, 70% increased chance of all causes of death. So let’s go back to what our grandparents said. Elbows off the table, stand up straight, eat your fruit, eat your veggies.
Because Dermatologists treat more than just skin cancer!
