So here’s another daily tip from your friendly local dermatologist!

If you pluck a nose hair will it mean that you’re gonna get 10 in its place? because this is an old wives tale that I’ve heard over and over again. That if you pluck your hair that more will come because you’ve pissed off its buddy. Well, that’s not exactly true. In fact, the more and more you pluck a hair in a certain area, the more and more it’s likely to permanently damage the hair follicle and that hair will never grow again, because it’s trauma. If you’re going to pluck your hairs, please make sure that you’re not prone to getting that folliculitis or that inflammation of the hair follicle after you pluck, because if you do that can lead to infections and other problems that you don’t want. The other is that topic of pseudofolliculitis barbae, where some people’s hair tends to curl as its regrowing. So if this is the top of your skin and you pluck the hair out and then the hair comes from below and it curls, it will form a little irritated bump. So if your skin is prone to that, please don’t do that either. If you need to pluck, please be smart about it. Please don’t overdo it and please realize that over time if you keep plucking the same area, you might have permanent hair loss there. So don’t do any crazy fads or vanilla ice lines or anything like that, let’s be smart about it.

Because Dermatologists treat more than just skin cancer!
