So here’s another daily tip from your friendly local dermatologist!

So we’ve all heard of psoriasis and psoriasis is an inflammatory disorder where your skin cells are kind of growing too quickly, and there’s a lot of different things that contribute to psoriasis but one of the things I want to talk to you today about is what other things can happen in your body if you have psoriasis. Because it is a disorder that can affect everything, basically. It can affect your mind. So people who have psoriasis tend to have a higher incidence of being depressed. People who have psoriasis also tend to have joint pains and that joint pain comes from arthritis or psoriatic arthritis, which means it can destroy your joints and it can destroy them permanently. People tend to have higher blood pressures, higher cholesterol, higher heart disease levels, higher all sorts of other things. Now a lot of people who have psoriasis, a lot of them are overweight and it’s not surprising that the diseases that I just mentioned that can happen concurrently with psoriasis are partially caused from being overweight. The important part of all of this is please talk to your local dermatologist about how we can help get your skin looking how you want it to look. Please talk to your local rheumatologist so that we can make sure that your joints are not affected. Please talk to your local primary care physician so we can make sure that every other aspect of you is healthy.

Take a look at your skin today and contact your Dermatologist if you notice anything new, growing or changing.
