Colorado Springs Dermatologist Dr. Reagan Anderson
So here’s another daily tip from your friendly local dermatologist!
So especially as we get older, right here in the corners or the angles of our jaw, a lot of times that gets chronically red and irritated and people oftentimes come into the clinic and say what do I do with this, and most of the time the reason this happens is because as this angle here starts to become blunted as our skin starts to sag and lose its strength, then the saliva collects in between the two folds as you sleep or as you go throughout the day and then the saliva that’s collecting here causes irritation and it even digests the skin a little bit because you know, that’s what slide was supposed to do. It’s supposed to digest things. So the main key is please see your local dermatologist, because this perleche or this angular cheilitis as we call it. It could be tied to other things that’s internal. So talk to your local dermatologist, but then most of the time all you have to do is put a little bit of vaseline right here before you go to sleep at night. The vaseline will create this nice little barrier between your skin and the saliva and then the redness will go away. Sometimes your dermatologist needs to write a prescription, but most of the time all you need a little Vaseline.
